Curve Mode

Activates LazyCurve. The Curve Mode allows a curve to be applied to the currently selected brush. As with other Stroke settings, this option is enabled per brush and is not globally applied to all brushes.

AsLine

Align Lazy Curve to a line. Click and drag to draw the line. The line is dragged out like a piece of string, and the end point can be moved around as you drag.

CurveStep

The Curve Step defines the roundness of the Curve when created. It also sets the space between each point making up the curve when it is drawn. A low setting results in a short distance between steps and so will create a smooth stroke with many points. A high setting applies a stroke with larger steps and fewer points.

Bend

Bend mode allows the editing of individual points on the curve to create a new curve. The number of points that fall under the cursor, and are therefore edited, is controlled by the Curve Edit Radius (below). When the cursor is over an editable curve, hitting the hotkey S and adjusting the Draw Size slider will actually adjust the Curve Edit Radius, making precise adjustment of curves easy.

A Bend can be applied by hovering over any of the points along the curve and then moving your cursor to pull the point and create the desired angle. The amount of bend at the cursor location is defined by the Curve Falloff settings, located at the bottom of the Curve menu. A Curve Falloff which has the point at the top left will produce a rounded curve deformation while a curve falloff which goes to the bottom right of the curve line will produce an angular curve. Bend mode is enabled by default.

If Bend mode is turned off, the curve can be edited as a whole, without changing its shape.

Snap

Snap Curve To Surface. The Snap Mode enables the curve’s ability to snap to the underlying surface when being manipulated or while applying the associated brush.

Lock Start

When using an Insert brush with Curve Mode active, this will freeze the curve’s starting point in place, preventing it from being moved while you edit curve. Imagine laying a one foot length of string on a table and holding down one end while moving the other. The length of the curve/string will not change.

This feature is most useful when TriParts is active in the Brush >> Modifiers subpalette.

Lock End

When using an Insert brush with Curve Mode active, this will freeze the curve’s ending point in place, preventing it from being moved while you edit curve. Imagine laying a one foot length of string on a table and holding down one end while moving the other. The length of the curve/string will not change.

This feature is most useful when TriParts is active in the Brush >> Modifiers subpalette.

Important!

Note: If both Lock Start and Lock End are active, manipulating an end point will override this setting for that point. For example, if you click the end point to move it, ZBrush will assume that you actually want to do so and will act as if only Lock Start is active.
